Pecan Global (Pty) Ltd is an agri-company focusing on the cultivation of top quality pecans in the Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme in the Northern Cape Province of the RSA. Vaalharts’s climate with its characteristic long, hot summers and short, cold winters, together with the fact that there is sufficient irrigation water, makes the area in question ideal for the cultivation of this particular crop. In fact, Vaalharts is considered one of the best areas in the world for the cultivation of pecan nuts!

PROCESSING PLANT

Pecan Global (Pty) Ltd has its own processing plant in Jan Kempdorp where its nuts are clad, sorted and packaged for export in bulk to overseas markets. It operates in a separate subsidiary company called Pecan Global Export Company (Pty) Ltd and we have a dedicated staffing team that ensures that only the best pecan nuts are delivered to our valued overseas customers.

WATERING SCHEME

We are situated in the Vaalharts Irrigation Scheme in the Northern Cape Province of the RSA. Vaalharts’s climate with its characteristic long, hot summers and short, cold winters, together with the fact that there is sufficient irrigation water, makes the area in question ideal for the cultivation of this particular crop.

DEVELOPMENT

We try to keep abreast of developments in the world pecan nanotechnology arena and are constantly in close contact with fellow farmers in the US and processors in China and other foreign markets. Pecan Global (Pty) Ltd is very optimistic about the prospects in the pecan industry awaiting South African farmers. This is definitely a rewarding industry and we encourage prospective farmers to become involved in the industry. We are more than willing to share information with prospective farmers.

Pecan Nut Varieties in our orchards

Wichita 70%

It is very popular cultivar being one of the most precocious and prolific of all cultivars. The nuts are of medium size, attractive appearance, high quality and have high kernel percentage. For effective pollination, the cultivar should be grown with Western.

Western Schley 20%

It is the most commonly planted cultivar in the U.S.A. and has originated from the cross between a seedling and the variety Texas. Nuts are medium sized, thin-shelled and having good kernel quality. It is a prolific bearer and suitable for high-density planting.

Choctaw 5%

Choctaw has good resistance to pecan scab and makes an excellent yard tree because of its beautiful foliage. The very large egg-shaped nuts have a thin shell structure making them easy to shell. Kernel quality is very good.

Pawnee 5%

This is a selection from Mohawk X Starking Hardy Giant crosses. It is an early, prolific and fast-growing variety in young age. Nut quality is excellent with good size, appearance and kernel percentage.
